Experience and perspectives of using ELTA programs for teaching induction heating

Abstract

The paper describes experience of authors in teaching induction heating using subject-oriented programs ELTA and 2DELTA. A guide-book for research and practical exercises in the field of induction heating has been developed for graduate and postgraduate students, young specialists and engineers. A set of practical tasks in induction heating, based on computer modeling using the ELTA and 2DELTA programs, is included in a course book, prepared by the authors. Several examples for teaching, training or self-education are presented in this paper to demonstrate the basic electromagnetic and thermal phenomena of induction heating, such as skin, edge and end electromagnetic effects. Use of ELTA and 2DELTA programs for design of induction processes for heating billets in line and slabs in multi-stage heater is also included in the paper. (Full text)

Edge effect of load in transverse flux induction heating systems

Abstract

The problem of edge effect in continuous transfers flux inductor heaters (TFIH) is examined using a new problem oriented program based on a structure of ELTA program. This new program is designed to simulate distribution of power sources and temperature along the width and length of the workpiece in continuous TFIH system. In paper methods of calculation are described and the results of several case studies are presented. Main attention was paid to distribution of the power source and temperature along the width of thin strips from copper, aluminum, stainless steel and ferromagnetic steel.  (Full text)

Simulation of induction heat treatment of steel articles with the help of ELTA 6.0 and 2DELTA software

Abstract

Processes of induction heat treatment of steel workpieces are studied with the help of ELTA and 2DELTA software for electrothermal analysis. A novel process of combined hardening of extra heavy balanced drill pipes is studied as an example. The results of the computations are confirmed by experimental data. (Full text)

Investigation of Gear Heat Treatment by Use ELTA 7.0

Abstract

The induction contour hardening of external gear is the most effective technology to increase steel hardness. A great deal of research using 3D software has been carried out and published in this field of knowledge. In order to perform these tasks more efficiently the authors offered new version of ELTA with special Gear Application. An idea of 2D gear model and structure of ELTA is described. FDM with internal coupling of EM and thermal problems according to a Total Flux Method for external electromagnetic problem is used. ELTA can calculate integral parameters of inductor, temperature field and power sources distribution in the cross-section of gear. Investigation may be simpler and faster than in the case of 3D simulation. Several examples of induction hardening taken into account variable frequency of power source and single or double frequency process are presented.
